Are you a medical professional? If so, we could use your assistance at our Masses and events as initial assessors in the event of a medical emergency.
St. Columba Church is a busy, welcoming place with many people attending our Masses, services, sacraments, missions, and other events. We are grateful for this, but we also are aware that people become ill while at St. Columba or experience some kind of medical event. Our parish is thankful for the many gifted parishioners who are medical professionals (nurses, EMT’s, physicians etc.) who are willing to help with medical events when they occur. The group of medically trained volunteers provide initial assessment and treatment prior to the arrival of an ambulance.
Our parish is well equipped with medical equipment. Our medical volunteers work closely with our ushers, and we have trained many of our ushers in basic CPR training to give support to the medical professional. St. Columba has formal, written procedures for medical incidents, and we test our procedures on a regular basis, working with not only our ushers, but clergy as well. Best of all, the system works - we've helped a number of people since this program began.
