Ushers/Greeters

Do you like meeting and helping people? Do you feel it is important that everyone who attends Mass at St. Columba should have a fulfilling experience?

If you do, you will make a very good member of our Welcoming Ministry!

It is important that everyone feels welcome and is welcomed at St. Columba. This is the primary job of our ushers - to welcome all who come to celebrate the Eucharist together as a community. We have other important roles was well:

• We make sure everyone who wants a seat at Mass is offered one.
• We serve as "first responders" in case of an emergency, working with our parish's medical professionals.
• We are part of our parish’s safety and security team. 
• Many of us have been trained in basic first aid and CPR.  We train regularly in safety and security matters.
• One can find us at Mass -- we all wear green name badges. Feel free to ask any usher for help at any time.

We are split evenly between men and women, and we have several young adults who have joined us. When we say all are welcome, we mean it.

We do ask our members to participate in our training sessions (a couple of times a year), and we ask that many of our ushers stand during Mass so they can lend assistance quickly.
